Membership

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), founded by civil engineers for civil engineers in 1852, is a dynamic member-driven organization dedicated to the advancement of the profession. Through the dedicated volunteer service of its members, the ASCE has become the world’s largest engineering society, with over 133,000 members.

The ASCE encourages engineers to become global leaders and supports their progress with activities ranging from locally developed programs, such as networking and technical dinners, to national conferences and global consortiums. ASCE members serve on committees and boards where they wrestle with present-day quality of life issues at local, state and national levels.

The award-winning ASCE North Jersey Brach shares the vision of the national organization, but on a local level. We organize social and community service events; plan seminars, talks and presentations to educate ourselves and the community; and disseminate information on scholarships, fellowships and competitions. Our activities are open to all in the civil engineering community, and we welcome seasoned professionals, recent graduates, professors, students (both undergraduate and graduate), lecturers and anybody else who might be interested in participating, including those in allied disciplines.

Though you may only have one reason to become a member of the ASCE, I can assure you that there are countless reasons why you will want to remain:

  • Networking and technical group dinners with seminars
  • Continuing education seminars with PDHs
  • Specialty institutes that focus on your area of expertise (Structural, Geotech, etc.)
  • National and regional conferences
  • Subscriptions to both Civil Engineering magazine and ASCE News
  • Award ceremonies with professional recognition by your peers
  • Volunteer service opportunities (Habitat for Humanity, etc.)
  • Sponsored insurance benefits
  • Online databases and research journals
  • Discounts on books
  • Job listings and resume referral service

Although the opportunities are many, all you really need to do is attend a local dinner meeting or one of our renowned, expertly guided field trips, where you will see firsthand the projects discussed at our seminars.  Joining is simply the best, most rewarding decision you will make in your professional life.  You can learn more about the benefits of ASCE membership and obtain an application form by going to http://www.asce.org/membership.  You owe it to your career and your community, and we will be looking for you at the next event!  For more information or to get involved, feel free to contact any of the branch officers.
